Turbulent - Boundary - Layer Behaviour and the Auxiliary Equation
نویسنده
چکیده
In addition to the K&m& momentum-integral equation, two further equations are required for the purposes of calculating the development of the incompressible turbulent boundary layer-a "skin-friction law" and an "auxiliary equrtion". The problem of deriving a satisfactory form of auxiliary equation is a major one. Indeed, despite the effort devoted to this question for meny years, few derived forms of auxiliary equotion can be relied upon to account for the boundary-layer development in more th'an a restricted number of cases. As a contribution to the elucidation of the problem en examination is made of several sets of experimental data covering different types of pressure distribution. Among the data certain basic types of boundary-layer behaviour ccn be distinguished. The equilibrium boundmJ-lcyer may be regarded as a datum condition and the other types of behaviour are discussed in the context of tendencies towards, or departures from, equilibrium. Simple forms of auxiliary equation are postulated and an examination is made of the extent to which they cnn be reconciled, even qualitatively, with the observed types of boundcry-layer behaviour. It is shown that several forms of the equation must be rejected as inadequate. The most economical form which appears to be capable of describing cl1 the various trends of the data is a second-order differential equation involving the shape factor. A limited number of comparisons with experiment indicate that values can be ascribed to the free constants in the equation which lead to qu'antitatively acceptable predictions.

Occurrence of laminar separation bubbles on solid walls of an elliptic cylinder has been simulated using a recently developed transitional model for boundary layer flows. Computational method is based on the solution of the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations and the eddy-viscosity concept. Transitional model tries to simulate streamwise fluctuations, induced by freestream turbulen...

This study is concerned with the prediction of particles’ velocity in a dilute turbulent gas-solidboundary layer flow using a fully Eulerian two-fluid model. The closures required for equationsdescribing the particulate phase are derived from the kinetic theory of granular flows. Gas phaseturbulence is modeled by one-equation model and solid phase turbulence by MLH theory. Resultsof one-way and...
متن کاملEntrainment in the Turbulent Boundary Layer
By considering the entrainment properties of the turbulent boundary layer, a new and simple form of auxiliary equation has been derived for the calculation of the form parameter H. Comparison with experimental results shows very fair agreement and it should be possible to apply the method in circumstances where normal forms of the auxiliary equation would fail. Further experiment or analysis of...

The current study presents the results of the aerodynamic noise prediction of the flow field around a NACA 0012 airfoil at a chord-based Reynolds number of 100,000 and at 8.4 degree angle of attack. An incompressible Large Eddy Simulation (LES) turbulence model is applied to obtain the instantaneous turbulent flow field. The noise prediction is performed by the Ffowcs Williams and Hawkings (FW-...
متن کاملSolution of Laminar Boundary Layer and Turbulent Free Jet With Neural Networks
A novel neuro-based method is introduced to solve the laminar boundary layer and the turbulent free jet equations. The proposed method is based on cellular neural networks, CNNs, which are recently applied widely to solve partial differential equations. The effectiveness of the method is illustrated through some examples.
